Telsen Sensors - Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why is there a difference between my fridge’s display temperature and Telsen’s reading?
A: The fridge’s LED shows the temperature at its built-in sensor, usually near the cooling element. Telsen measures the temperature where its sensor is placed. This location difference can cause small variations. Telsen sensors are accurate and measure the real conditions affecting your stored food.

Q: If Telsen shows my fridge is hotter than the display, is Telsen wrong?
A: No. Telsen provides an independent reading over time. A higher reading can indicate factors like overloading, frost build-up, or maintenance needs - all of which can make the fridge run hotter.

Q: Why do I sometimes see short frequent temperature spikes above safe limits?
A: Most fridges run defrost cycles every few hours, temporarily raising temperatures. This is normal unless the temperature stays high for an extended period.

Q: How does Telsen help me manage fridge performance?
A: Telsen tracks temperature trends and alerts you when readings go out of safe ranges. This helps you spot issues early, for example, overloading, frost build-up, or maintenance problems  before food safety is compromised.

Q: Can Telsen data be used for food safety compliance?
A: Yes. Telsen provides accurate, time-stamped records and alerts that support HACCP and other food safety standards.

Q: What should I do if I get a temperature alert?
A:

  1. Check if the fridge is in a defrost cycle or overloaded.

  2. If the temperature remains high after a short time, investigate for maintenance issues or possible fridge failure.

Q: How often do Telsen sensors record and send data?
A: This is configurable within Telsen. Typically our clients set this to every 10 minutes, giving you near real-time monitoring.

Q: Where should I place my Telsen sensor?
A: Place it where your food is stored, away from vents or cooling elements. For consistency, use the same location in all similar appliances, this ensures comparable readings.
